Why IB students need an adaptive tutor
The IB Diploma is uniquely demanding because it runs six subjects simultaneously alongside the core components of Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. That volume means the risk of falling behind in any one subject is high, and the marking criteria are more nuanced than most national curricula, which makes it easy to write a technically correct response that still scores a 5 rather than a 7.
Edapt builds lessons around the IB subject guide and assessment criteria for your course, scores your practice responses on the 1-to-7 scale and explains criterion by criterion what a 6 or 7 requires. VARK-tailored content means you spend time on the approach that builds understanding fastest for you, which matters when you have six courses and a 4000-word Extended Essay to complete at the same time.
Marked like an assessor, not a chatbot
Illustrative example. Generic AI gives everyone the same note. Edapt marks against IBO (the International Baccalaureate Organisation) criteria.
Solid essay. Consider adding more analysis and strengthening your conclusion.
The narrator's detached tone functions as a defence mechanism, distancing her from the grief she cannot yet name, a technique that implicates the reader in the act of witnessing without understanding.
- Understanding and interpretation of the text
- 4 of 5
- Appreciation of the writer's choices and effects
- 4 of 5
- Organisation, development and focus
- 3 of 5
- The organisation criterion is pulling the overall score down. A grade 6 response structures each paragraph around a central interpretive claim, not just a technique. Rewrite your topic sentences so each one states what you argue the text does, then use the technique as evidence for that claim.
- To move from 4 to 5 on the appreciation criterion, add one sentence per paragraph that connects the writer's choice to the reader's experience of the text, not just to the character's experience. The phrase 'implicates the reader' is a good instinct, so develop it more fully.
IB AI tutor: common questions
Does Edapt follow the current IB subject guides?
Yes. Set your IB subject and level (SL or HL) and Edapt pitches every lesson to the current IB subject guide, using the right assessment criteria, command terms and the question formats that appear in Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3.
Can Edapt help with the Internal Assessment?
Yes. The IA is a significant part of your overall grade. Tell Edapt which subject and IA type you are working on and it will help you plan, draft and refine your work, with feedback framed around the published IB assessment criteria.
How does the 1-to-7 grade feedback work?
Edapt applies the IB marking criteria to your practice response, gives you a grade for each criterion and explains in plain language what a grade 6 or 7 requires. It is a study tool, not an official IBO result.
Is the IB tutor free?
Yes. Every tool on Edapt is free for every student, no subscription required and no catch.
